AI Policy
Generative AI and AI-Driven Tools Usage Policy
This policy is established in response to the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) and AI-driven technologies in academic writing and publishing. Generative AI refers to systems capable of producing new content, including text, images, and other media, while AI-driven tools encompass broader applications used for data analysis, automation, and decision support.
SMCS aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and academic integrity in the use of such technologies by authors, reviewers, and editorial staff. The journal will continuously monitor developments in AI and revise this policy in accordance with international publishing standards.
For Authors
SMCS does not permit the use of generative AI tools as a primary means of writing manuscripts. Authors may use AI tools in a limited capacity for:
- Language improvement (grammar checking and proofreading)
- Minor paraphrasing assistance
However, the use of AI must:
- Not exceed 20% similarity contribution, as assessed by plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin)
- Be fully disclosed in the manuscript (e.g., in the acknowledgment section or a dedicated disclosure statement)
Authors remain fully responsible for:
- The originality, accuracy, and integrity of their work
- Proper citation and avoidance of plagiarism
- Ensuring that AI-generated content does not introduce errors, bias, or misinterpretation
For Reviewers, Editors, Copy Editors, and Proofreaders
All manuscripts submitted to SMCS are treated as confidential documents. Therefore:
- Reviewers and editorial staff are strictly prohibited from uploading manuscripts, in whole or in part, to any generative AI or AI-driven tools
- AI tools must not be used to assist in peer review, editorial decision-making, or manuscript editing, where confidentiality could be compromised
Policy Statement
SMCS supports the responsible use of technology that enhances the efficiency and quality of academic publishing while safeguarding:
- Confidentiality
- Intellectual property rights
- Academic integrity
Any misuse of AI that violates these principles may result in rejection, retraction, or other editorial actions.
This policy is subject to ongoing revision in line with developments in AI technologies and international academic publishing guidelines.
