Peer Review Process
Spectrum: Media, Culture & Society (SMCS) upholds a rigorous peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of all published articles while maintaining efficiency and transparency.
All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the Editor-in-Chief and/or Section Editors to assess their suitability in terms of scope, originality, and technical requirements. Manuscripts that pass this stage are forwarded to at least two independent reviewers under a Double-Blind Peer Review system, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous.
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on their scholarly contribution, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the journal’s focus and scope. Each reviewer provides a recommendation based on the following decisions:
- Accept Submission: The manuscript meets publication standards and is ready for publication.
- Minor Revisions Required: The manuscript requires minor improvements and may be accepted after revision.
- Major Revisions Required (Resubmit for Review): Substantial revisions are needed, and the manuscript may undergo another round of review.
- Resubmit Elsewhere: The manuscript is not suitable for the journal’s focus and scope.
- Reject Submission: The manuscript does not meet the required academic standards.
Authors will be notified of the review results and, where applicable, asked to revise their manuscripts accordingly. Revised submissions may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation.
The overall review process typically takes approximately 8–12 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the extent of revisions required.
SMCS appoints reviewers with expertise in areas including media studies, film and cinema studies, communication, journalism, and new media, ensuring high-quality and relevant evaluations. Final publication decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewers’ recommendations.
