Plagiarism Policy

Spectrum: Media, Culture & Society (SMCS)

Spectrum: Media, Culture & Society (SMCS) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and does not tolerate any form of plagiarism. Authors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscripts using reliable plagiarism detection tools prior to submission.

All manuscripts submitted to SMCS will be screened using plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, will be immediately rejected or returned to the authors for revision, depending on the severity of the issue.

Plagiarism occurs when an author uses ideas, data, or words from another source without proper acknowledgment. This includes both intentional and unintentional acts and is considered a serious violation of academic ethics.

Authors must ensure proper citation in the following cases:

  • When using specific information such as data, statistics, names, dates, or factual details obtained from other sources
  • When adopting or adapting ideas, theories, or interpretations from other authors, even if further developed
  • When quoting text directly from another source, quotation marks must be used along with appropriate citation

Any sequence of four or more consecutive words taken from another source must be properly quoted and cited. Paraphrased content must also be sufficiently reworded and accompanied by proper attribution.

SMCS is committed to maintaining integrity in scholarly publishing and expects all authors to adhere to international ethical standards. The editorial team reserves the right to reject or retract any manuscript that violates this policy.
