Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has fundamentally changed the landscape of media production. This study examines the technical transformation in digital content production within the new media era, focusing on how practitioners adapt their workflows, tools, and competencies in response to the shift from conventional to platform-based media systems. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with thirteen informants consisting of then digital content creators and three media practitioners in Indonesia. The findings indicate that technical transformation in content production is not merely a matter of tool adoption but also involves  a restucturing  of production roles,a compression of the production cycle, and the emergence of hybrid competencies that blend journalistic, technical, and creative skills. Platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram  have become the primary staging grounds for this transformation, demanding real-time responsiveness and data-driven content strategies. Furthermore, algorithmic gatekeeping has emerged as a defining force that shapes the tecnhical decisions of content producers, compelling creators to develop platform intelligencie as acore competency. This study contributes to a broader understanding of how new media ecosystems reshape the technical and organizational dimensions of content production, and opens discussions about the sustainability, quality, and future directions of digital content production in the Indonesian media lanscape
